Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Seniors End Home Schedule in Style as Mount Defeats Saint Peter’s

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 9, 2024) – On Senior Day, the trio of four-year members posted double figures in the ultimate home game of the 2023-24 season as Mount St. Mary's women's basketball defeated the Saint Peter's Peacocks by a 56-46 final from Knott Arena.

Only four Mountaineers scored in the contest, which paved the way for the seniors to shine. Isabella Hunt tied her career high with 21 points, came within one rebound of a double-double, and drew 10 Saint Peter's fouls. Jessica Tomasetti finished with 18 and became the 30th member of the team's 1,000 point club. Jada Lee found the bottom of the net five times and finished with 12. Giana Hoddinott came off the bench for the remaining five points.

Saint Peter's had 24 points and eight rebounds from Fatmata Janneh.

With the regular season complete, Mount St. Mary's stands at 13-16 with a mark of 10-10 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. They are the #6 seed in the upcoming MAAC Championship and will face #11 Marist in the first round.

Unphased by the Senior Day hype, Saint Peter's started the contest on a 9-2 run. Hunt turned the tide with a personal 9-0 run that gave the Mount its first lead at 11-9. The two sides then stayed within one possession of each other and were tied at 18 during the second quarter media. Tomasetti hit a late go-ahead triple to help the Mount go up 23-20 by halftime.

The contest kept grinding along as Janneh continued to keep the Peacocks alive, scoring all but two of her team's points in the third period. Tomasetti countered on the opposite end and dropped her 1,000th point on her iconic pull up jumper. Five points from Hunt and a triple by Lee helped keep the Mount ahead, 39-34, after three.

Strong defense held firm and kept SPU at arm's length in the fourth quarter. Clutch baskets down the stretch by the senior class, capped off with a Tomasetti field goal, cemented the victory.

The Mount's opening round game takes place Tuesday, March 12 at 3 p.m. from Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
