SPARKS, Md. (March 8, 2024) – Battling from an early deficit, Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse almost completed the comeback against High Point on a chilly night at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters. The Panthers held on to win by a final of 8-6.
Logan Cook had the highest point total for the Mountaineers, scoring twice and adding an assist.
Mackenzi Furlong was also a multi-goal scorer.
Madison Harmening finished the contest with six ground balls and
Anna Salerno caused three turnovers. Both latter figures were career highs, as was four ground balls from
Mackey Fick.
High Point began the contest on a 4-0 run before Cook registered the first Mount goal. Defense hunkered down following the first period, allowing only one to the Panthers. Cook scored again as a shot ricocheted off the HPU defense, and Lindsay Tolliver added her name to the scoresheet minutes later. The Mountaineers trialed 6-3 at the break.
An issued yellow card helped the Panthers hit the opening goal of the second half. Undaunted, the Mountaineers roared back to score three in a row. Furlong bookended a goal by
Anna Salerno to pull back within one. The contest had a chance to turn entering the fourth quarter as two Panthers took on cards. Mount had several chances on the extra opportunity, but High Point's defense managed to snuff them out. A Panthers goal with 3:57 remaining provided the additional cushion towards their win.
This Tuesday (March 12), Mount St. Mary's hosts Robert Morris at Waldron Family Stadium. First draw is at noon.
