Mountaineers Fall to VMI in MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Action

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 27, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse battled the VMI Keydets Wednesday, with the visitors taking the game by a 12-8 final.
 
Brody Atkinson recorded his second consecutive hat trick, and Cormac Giblin posted a multi-goal effort. Dan Bradley, Kevin Whitty, and Noah Persing. On defense, Mitchell Dunham finished with eight ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Jackson Phillips matched him in the caused turnover department. Bennett Wright made his collegiate debut as a goalie substitute, finishing with seven saves in 40 minutes.

 
VMI's Luke Rusterucci matched Atkinson on goals by scoring a hat trick, along with five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
 
After the Keydets opened a 4-1 advantage, the Mount rallied to knot proceedings at four. Atkinson scored twice in the run along with the third goal from Whitty. VMI closed out on a 3-0 run to counter the Mount's and lead 7-4 at the break. Giblin began the second half with a goal, but the Keydets responded by pushing their edge up to five, enough to withstand the Mount's comeback tries.
