Scoring Bunches Hoisted the Mountaineers to a Win in Conference-Opener

POMONA, N.Y. (March 22nd, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's won this afternoon's contest after scoring 10 runs over four innings, including runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings outscoring the Jaspers 7-2. The final of tonight's contest 11-8 leading to a 1-0 conference start for the Mountaineers. Scott Seeker highlighted the day with two homeruns and five RBIs while going 3-5 at the plate.

The Jaspers started quickly with three runs in the bottom of the first after stringing together three runs on three hits, batting 3/4th of the cycle with a single, double, and triple.

Leaving the second scoreless, the Mount responded with three of their own in the top of the third inning. After a disappointing first at-bat, Scott Seeker roped a three-run homerun over right center, scoring Efrain Correa, Jr. and Josh Braxton to knot the game at 3.

Attempting to regain control of the game, Manhattan scored three runs between the third and fourth innings to take their second lead, 6-3.

Mount St. Mary's went on to score seven runs to the Jaspers two through the seventh inning. Seeker cut the deficit to one in the fifth after hitting an RBI double to right-center, then scoring on a passed ball in the fifth, 6-5. The Mountaineers took their first lead, 7-6, in the sixth inning off a JT Landwehr RBI single and a Braxton RBI double.

The Jaspers fought for two runs in the bottom of the frame making an effort to balance the scales, 8-7.

Efrain Correa, Jr. wanted nothing to do with a Manhattan comeback as the senior roped a three RBI double to deep right-center scoring Landwehr, Jayson Kramer, and Ty Stecko, 10-8 and turning to be the deciding factor of the game. Seeker added another run to cushion the Mount's lead with a solo-shot in the top of the eighth, 11-8.

Deven Sheerin took the hill in the sixth to hold the Jaspers scoreless the rest of the way. The freshman earns his second win of the year, posting yet another astonishing stat line allowing one hit, no runs, and seven punch outs.
