POMONA, N.Y. (March 24th, 2024) –
Kyle Speas picked up his first win as a Mountaineer in the Mount's 9-7 win over Manhattan to start 2-1 in conference play. Coach Leoni and his crew put together 11 hits in today's win. Mount St. Mary's fell in game two after the bats went cold, 5-2.
Jayson Kramer highlighted game one with a phenomenal day at the plate posting three hits on four at-bats with five RBIs.
A defensive battle through the first five innings sparked the bats in the sixth as the Mount rattled off three runs on four hits.
Aiden Tierney hit a lead-off double down the left-field line, then scored on a
Tyler Long sacrifice fly, bringing
Scott Seeker to the plate. Seeker followed with an RBI double down the right field line, sending
Josh Braxton to third.
Jayson Kramer capped the inning with a two RBI single to deep center field, scoring Braxton and Seeker, 3-0.
The Jaspers worked a quick response in the bottom of the frame, scoring two of their own on two hits.
The Mount erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh. A favorable chain of events for the Mountaineers as the rally started with putting two runners on base off Jasper errors. Tierney batted
Shane Wockley in while advancing
David Stirpe to put players on first and second. Braxton drew a walk to load the bags and return the Mount back to the top of the order. Long hit his second RBI sac-fly to right field scoring Stirpe.
Ty Stecko and
Jayson Kramer opened the inning up with consecutive doubles, scoring four runs, 8-2.
Manhattan attempted a late-game rally, scoring five runs between the seventh and eighth innings, yet fell short of a comeback.
Seeker added a Mount run to the board via a Kramer RBI sac-fly to left field to ice the game and send his team away with a conference win, 9-7.
GAME TWO:
Manhattan broke out for three runs in the first inning and was able to keep command the rest of the way. The Jaspers added two runs late in the contest to cushion their lead, 5-1.
Both teams struggled to get their bats rolling as the Mount scored two runs on two hits.
Evan Smith capitalized in the third inning with a solo home run and scored in the ninth on a passed ball.
After a three run first inning,
Max Moore pitched a strong two innings, allowing only one hit and zero runs with three punch outs.
Jeff Davis and
Tommy Moore picked up innings on the hit. The collective allowed one hit, zero runs, while fanning three batters.
