STARKVILLE, MS (MARCH 2nd, 2024) – The Mountaineers slid games two and three to the Bulldogs in today's double-header. They fell 7-2 in the first game and 6-0 in the second.
GAME ONE:
The Bulldogs took control of the game with a three run second inning, before adding two more in the fifth and sixth to go ahead 5-0.
The Mountaineers responded in the top of the seventh to create their version of a late game rally, scoring two runs on two hits.
Shane Wockley started the inning with a single to center field, followed with a well-placed sacrifice bunt laid down by
Braden Ramirez to advance Wockley to second. A
Jayson Kramer walk brought pinch hitter,
Ty Stecko, to the plate. Stecko roped a two RBI single to left field pushing Wockley and Kramer across the plate, 5-2.
The Bulldogs acted fast with a two-run, two-hit bottom frame to retake control, 7-2. State kept control of the game the rest of the way.
GAME TWO:
Although matching the Bulldogs in hits at four on the game, Mount St. Mary's couldn't find pay dirt. The Mount battled all game, conceding only two runs in the first six innings, 2-0. In the bottom of the seventh, Mississippi state was able to string together four runs on three hits, resulting in the end score, 6-0.
Kyle Speas took the hill to pitch five phenomenal innings to open the game. The sophomore out of Greensboro, Md. allowed one hit and one earned run, fanned six batters, and threw three 1-2-3 innings.
