Niagara Univ, N.Y. (March 16, 2024)--The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team opened Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Niagara on Saturday night.  The Mountaineers fought hard, but were edged by the Purple Eagles, 4-3, in the match.

The Mount captured two of the three doubles matches to take the 1-0 advantage. Sofia Kostirko and Margherita Trolese earned a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles while Ana Alvarez-Storni and Adriana Barney prevailed at No. 2 doubles by a 6-3 score.  In singles play, Kostirko improved to 6-0 in dual matches at the No. 1 singles position with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Elena Mayet.  Trolese provided the Mount's other point with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win over Mercedes Velasco at No. 5 singles.  Alvarez-Storni was edged at No. 3 singles in three sets while Bella Pescatore fell in three sets at No. 4 singles.
