McKay Hits Hat Trick, Mount Falls at Manhattan

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 10, 2024)Will McKay earned a hat trick for the second time in three games, and Owen Peters registered 12 saves, but Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse fell to the Manhattan Jaspers 12-6 Sunday.
 
McKay was one of three Mountaineers to find the back of the net. Ian Plott finished the contest with two goals and Noah Persing scored once. Brody Atkinson and Kevin Whitty added a pair of assists each. Caden Cote and Dan Bradley tied for the game high in ground balls as both players contributed four, and Bradley added three caused turnovers.
 
Manhattan received hat tricks from Kyle Gucwa and Scott O'Connor. Gucwa tacked on an assist for four points on the day.
 
The Jaspers established control in the first half, posting nine of the first 10 goals. McKay's first and second scores broke runs by Manhattan, but the Mount trailed 9-2 at halftime. Plott and Persing carved into the deficit some, and McKay's hat trick clincher got the Mountaineers within five, which was as close as they could get.
 
This coming Saturday (March 16), Mount St. Mary's travels to LIU. The opening face-off is at 2 p.m. from Brookville, New York.
