EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 16, 2024) – The first-year Mountaineers duo of
Brody Atkinson and
Will McKay scored twice each as Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse fell to the LIU Sharks Saturday, 13-6.
Atkinson posted a multi-goal game for the fourth time in his freshman year. He now has 22 points on the season and tied
Cormac Giblin for a team high in goals at 13. McKay – a transfer from St. Bonaventure – has a four game goal streak with three contests of multiple scores.
The brother tandem of
Dan Bradley and
Brian Bradley led the way on ground balls with four apiece.
Dan Bradley had two caused turnovers, matching
Jackson Phillips and
Mitchell Dunham.
Owen Peters finished with 16 saves.
LIU saw Tom von Bargen and Ben McIsaac finish the game on four goals. Sean Boll also added a hat trick.
It was a tight contest in the first quarter as the Mount battled to stay in on Atkinson's two tallies. Both times the freshman scored it pulled the contest within one. But with the game at 4-3 Sharks, LIU cemented the advantage on a 4-0 run to gain control.
Ben Schuster scored for the Mount in the closing minute. McKay's pair came in the second half, with his last coming at the 6:36 mark of the third quarter.
Mount St. Mary's welcomes Wagner next Saturday for their first home Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game.
