Eugene, Ore. (March 1, 2024)—Mount St. Mary's softball fell No. 25 Oregon at the Jane Sanders Classic on Friday.
GAME 1: Oregon 10, Mount St. Mary's 2 (6 inn.)
Mount St. Mary's took the early lead, but it was No. 25 Oregon who prevailed in the opening game of Friday's action at the Jane Sanders Classic.
The Mount (2-9) plated the game's first run in the top of the first inning.
Abigayle Perry walked to open the game, and moved to third when
Zoe Truxon reached on an error on her sacrifice bunt attempt. After Truxon stole second base,
Hannah Gartrell scored Perry with an RBI groundout to second base.
The Ducks (11-7) took the lead with a four-run inning in the bottom of the first. Vallery Wong's RBI single gave Oregon the lead, and Emily Kauf added a two-run hit to make it 4-1.
The Mount cut into the deficit in the top of the second when
Laurenne Gallagher doubled home
Lia Festa, who had walked with one out. Wong knocked in two more runs in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double.
The Ducks added a single run in the fifth and three in the sixth to pull away for the victory.
Gartrell finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and Gallagher 1-for-2 with an RBI to lead the offense.
Olivia Murphy tossed a complete game for the Mount.
