Mount Softball Closes Out Jane Sanders Classic with Pair of Losses to No. 6 Washington

Eugene, Ore. (March 2, 2024)--Mount St. Mary's closed out the Jane Sanders Classic hosted by the University of Oregon with a pair of losses to No. 6 Washington on Saturday.  The Huskies won the opener, 10-0, before taking game two, 13-3.

In the opening game, the Huskies scored three times in the first and six more in the second to take control of the game.  Kinsey Fielder produced the big hit in the first, a three-run homer, that put Washington ahead.  Washington hit three more home runs in the six-run second.

Tori Bowles led the Mount offense, going 1-for-2 at the plate in the opening game. Maddie Coleman allowed one run in 2.2 innings of relief.

Washington captured game two by the score of 13-3.  A Jilian Celis home run in the top of the first gave Washington a 1-0 lead.  The Mount was able to even things up in the bottom of the inning.  Abigayle Perry was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, she moved to second on a passed ball, and then came home on a Bowles two-base hit.

The Huskies regained the lead with a run in the second, and then pulled away with an eight-run third.  In the bottom of the third, Perry led off with a walk and then stole second.  After a walk to Taylor Williams, Bowles drove home Perry with a single to left field.

The Mount (2-10) added a run in the bottom of the fourth to close out the scoring in the game.  Gina Del Giorno reached on a passed ball on a third strike, and Julia Vincent added a bunt single to put runners on first and second.  Perry walked to reach base for the third time in the game with a walk to load the bases.  Bowles then reached on an error with Del Giorno scoring.

Bowles went 2-for-3 with two RBI in game two and finished the day 3-for-5 at the plate.  Perry scored twice while Olivia Murphy allowed two earned runs in three innings of relief.

The Mount is back in action on Wednesday, March 6, with a 2:00 p.m. game at Towson.
