MOUNT JOY, Pa. (February 9, 2024) – Closing out the day breaking the school record for highest score in a single match, Mount St. Mary's bowling earned its spot at the top of the leaderboard following the first day of the Mount Shootout at Clearview Lanes.
Sitting in second place entering the final match, the Mount started off strong with a 216 and never looked back, finishing the afternoon with scores of 257, 238, 238, and 236 for a total of 1,185 in a win over Lincoln Memorial. The mark bested the previous record of 1,180 set against Duquesne in February 2022.
The entire day was impressive as the team averaged 216.3 across five rounds and scored over 1,000 for each game.
Aliza Shirk was the best out of five players with Baker averages of 20 or better, leading the group with 23.63 per frame.
Leah Varela posted a 22.29 while
Trishelle Leal Uribe added a 21.44.
Alyssa Alexander and
Piper Chalmers also boasted respective scores of 20.59 and 20.08.
In head-to-head matchups, the Mountaineers won four of five contests, defeating FDU, Niagara, Kutztown, and LMU. Saint Francis University was able to withstand a strong Mount finish to take the fourth game.

Mount St. Mary's holds a 155-pin lead over second place North Carolina A&T State University. Six of the 16 teams in the field earned averages of 200 or better on day one, meaning several teams remain in the running for a coveted top four placement entering bracket Sunday.
