EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 3, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse dropped their 2024 season opener to the Navy Midshipmen, 19-6, Saturday in Annapolis.
Cormac Giblin was a multi-goal scorer against the Mids, and one of five Mountaineers to score on the day.
Will McKay and
Brody Atkinson registered their first college goals.
Owen Peters got his first start in goal for the team and registered 10 saves.
As a team, the Mount finished with 14 shots on goal and outpaced Navy on saves, 12-8.
The Mount held steady in the first quarter, taking a 1-0 lead on Giblin's first goal. After Navy scored twice on goals by Xavier Arline,
Kyle Cullen tallied his first of the year and forced a 2-2 tie after one. But following the initial period, Navy went on a 6-0 tear before Giblin answered. The Midshipmen extended an 8-3 halftime lead into a 13-4 advantage after three quarters. McKay and Atkinson registered their goals in the final frame.
