Towson, Md. (February 10, 2024)--Mount St. Mary's was toppled by Towson in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at John Unitas Stadium.
Cormac Giblin scored a pair of goals for the Mountaineers while
Owen Peters made 13 saves in the game.
Towson (1-1) scored the first two goals of the game before
Noah Persing sliced the deficit in half on an assist from Giblin five minutes into the game. The Tigers closed the opening quarter with the next to goals to build a 4-1 advantage. Towson scored the first three in the second quarter before
Ben Schuster converted a
Brody Atkinson feed to make it 7-2 with 3:15 left in the half. Towson's Chop Gallagher closed the scoring in the half with his second goal to make it 8-2 at the break.
Towson built an 11-3 lead after three quarters of play with Giblin scoring a man-up goal on a pass from Persing for the Mount's goal in the quarter. The Mount added two more man-up goals in the final quarter with
Kevin Whitty and Giblin each finding the back of the cage.
Giblin finished the game with two goals and an assist while taking a team-high eight shots. Whitty and Persing added a goal and an assist each in the contest while Peters made 13 saves while collecting a team-high six ground balls. Joaquin Villagomez led Towson with five goals and two assists with Nick DeMaio finishing with three goals and three helpers. The Mountaineers finished the game 3-for-6 on extra-man opportunities.
Mount St. Mary's hosts NJIT for the home opener on Saturday, February 17, at Waldron Family Stadium. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m.
