(February 18, 2024) – Freshman Brody Atkinson tallied his first career hat trick and sophomore Owen Peters collected 18 saves in the 2024 home opener for Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse. A close battle for much of the contest, NJIT rallied for five goals in the fourth quarter to earn an 11-7 victory.

Atkinson also added two assists, playing a role of 71 percent of the team's scores. Cormac Giblin added three points and was a multi-goal scorer. Peters increased his save total for the third straight contest, all of which resulted in double digit stoppages. Further defensive aid came off 13 caused turnovers. Mitchell Dunham ended with five, and Jackson Phillips and Will McKay tallied a pair each.

NJIT had a hat trick from Jesse Roth and multi-goal efforts from Arthur Miller and Garrett Muscatella. Liam Brown finished with 11 saves in net for the Highlanders.

After the visitors went up 2-0, the Mountaineers rallied on goals by Ben Schuster and Atkinson to forge a 2-2 tie entering the second quarter. With 4:46 left in the half, the Mount cracked through the defense to take their first lead, with Atkinson supplying his second. Mount St. Mary's jumped ahead twice in the third quarter on Atkinson's hat trick clincher and the first career goal for Tommy Niehaus. NJIT countered with a methodical 4-0 run that kept the home side off the board for almost a full quarter's length of time. Giblin's first goal cut it to 8-6, but the Highlanders pieced together another run to seal the game.
