EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 24, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse dropped their Saturday contest against UMBC. The visiting Retrievers took the contest by an 18-6 final.
Cormac Giblin was the Mount's lone multi-goal scorer on the day.
Kyle Cullen added three points on a goal and two assists, while also contributing three ground balls.
Brody Atkinson,
Ben Schuster, and
Noah Persing all found the back of the net as well.
Mitchell Dunham led the team in ground balls with five and tied
Brian Bradley for caused turnovers, with each earning a pair.
UMBC improved to 1-1 on the year on the shoulders on Brian Tregoning's six goal game. Mateo Brown posted a hat trick of three for the Retrievers.
Giblin gave the Mount an early lead, scoring the opening goal with 10:12 remaining in the first quarter. UMBC answered 20 seconds later and kicked off a 4-1 run. The home side cut it back to 4-3 with Giblin and Persing scoring, but the Retrievers countered again to lead 6-4 at halftime. Brown scored with 4:12 in the third to put UMBC up 8-5, which sparked an 8-0 outburst that sealed the contest.
Mount St. Mary's travels to Monmouth next Saturday, March 2.
