RICHMOND, Va. (February 25th, 2024) – A late game rally in the bottom of the ninth inning stunned Mount baseball today after the spiders were able to string together four runs to ice the game, 9-8.
The Mountaineers had a busy second inning after loading the bases with no outs.
Josh Braxton made things look easy as he hit a grand-slam down the left-field line to put his team in great position early in the game, 4-0.
The Spiders answered in the fifth inning after Phil Bartenstein hit a three-run shot to right field, 4-3.
A quick sixth inning brought the Mount to the seventh with a one-run lead.
JT Landwehr started things off with a single up the middle followed by an advance to second on a wild pitch. With two outs,
Jayson Kramer doubled to right center allowing Landwehr to score. Next to bat,
Aiden Tierney stepped to the plate to rope a two-run round-trip, scoring himself and Kramer, 7-3.
The Spiders chipped away at the lead in the seventh and eighth innings with an RBI double and a solo home run, 7-5.
Tierney added another run to the board with a single up the middle, scoring Landwehr, 8-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth.
Richmond strung together two walks, an RBI fielder's choice, an RBI single, and a base-clearing double to seal off the game, 9-8.
