RICHMOND, Va. (February 24th, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's falls in games one and two of today's double-header to drop to 1-5 on the season. The finals of today's games, game one 8-2, while game two was a hard fought 7-6.
Richmond scored eight unanswered runs in the first eight innings of game one. The Spiders were able to string together three doubles and a two-run homerun off to credit to a majority of their runs between the fourth and eighth innings, 8-0.
Braden Ramirez credited for the first Mount score of the day after roping a single to right-center, pushing
Evan Meier across the plate and
David Stirpe to third base. A batter later,
Stephen Katch hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Stirpe to score, 8-2.
The Mount mound fanned six batters in game one, crediting three to
Brendan Yagesh and two to
Jeff Davis, collectively allowing three earned runs through six innings.

GAME TWO:
Game two started similar to the first. Richmond scored early, five runs in the first three innings until the Mount rallied for the next six runs of the contest pushing to make it a one-sided affair.
Jayson Kramer started the scoring with an RBI sac-bunt, allowing
Tyler Long to score, while also legging out a single. Three batters later,
Aiden Tierney placed a sac-fly to centerfield pushing Kramer across the plate, 5-2.
A strong bottom frame from
JT Landwehr on the mound brought the Mount to the top of the fifth with momentum. Long, who went 6-10 at the plate today, lined a two RBI single up the middle allowing
Efrain Correa, Jr. and Landwehr to score, 5-4.
The Mountaineers kept their foot on the gas, scoring the next two in the top of the eighth inning. Tierney, going 2-3 at the plate, striped a two RBI double to left field pushing Long and
Ty Stecko across the plate, 6-5 headed into the bottom of the frame.
In the bottom of the eighth, with two outs, the Spiders managed to load the bags by working the counts in their favor drawing two walks. Zach Lass to the plate hit a two RBI single up the middle to push back on the Mount's momentum rally, 7-6.
In the top of the ninth
Tyler Long was working the basepath, able to move from first to third on a failed pick-off attempt and a wild pitch from the pitcher. Next to bat, Kramer worked the count to draw a walk and stole second to put runners on second and third with two outs. The Mount came up short in the end after
Ty Stecko was caught looking on strike three.
