Washington, D.C. (February 23, 2024)--Mount St. Mary's posted a 4-3 win over the University of the District of Columbia on Friday afternoon to move to 2-1 this season.
The Mountaineers won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Sofia Kostirko and
Bella Pescatore won 7-5 at the No. 1 doubles spot over Laura Marie and Lina Benjelloun.
Adriana Barney and
Valentine Mudry were clipped at No. 2 doubles by Polina Zelentsova and Celia Bastin.
Ana Alvarez-Storni and
Margherita Trolese clinched the doubles point for the Mount with a 7-6 (7-3) win over Mariona Franco Claudia Bahamon.
In singles play, Kostirko won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, over Marie at the No. 1 position to give the Mount a 2-1 lead. Trolese took a 6-3, 6-1 win over Franco at No. 3 singles, and Mudry edged Bahoman, 7-5, 1-6, 12-10, at No. 6 singles to clinch the match.
The Mount plays at West Virginia on Saturday.
