EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 17, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse made several rallies to threaten the Delaware Blue Hens on the road Saturday. The Blue Hens managed to stay ahead for the entire game, however, in a 13-9 decision.
Hailey Chester finished with a hat trick, going a perfect 3-for-3 on shots.
Abby Yesko also tallied multiple goals in a three-point effort.
Anna Salerno,
Anna McQuay,
Mackenzi Furlong, and
Lindsey Tolliver all earned one goal on the scoresheet.
On defense,
Molly Molchanoff delivered three caused turnovers and
Mackey Fick added a pair.
Ashlyn Watkins started in goal for the second straight contest and totaled nine saves.
Delaware charged to the front, building a 3-0 lead. Chester and Salerno answered in a heated offensive start with five goals in the opening five minutes. Both teams then went back-and-forth up to McQuay's second quarter strike to pull the game within 5-4. The Blue Hens then went on a run of six straight goals to commandeer an 11-4 advantage.
Trailing 12-6 entering the fourth, the Mount refused to retreat. Defense conceded one goal in the final frame and the offense ended on a 3-0 run, but Delaware's lead proved to be too excessive to overcome.
The 2024 home opener takes place this Wednesday (Feb. 21) as the Mountaineers host Navy. First draw is at 4 p.m. from Waldron Family Stadium.
