Mount St. Mary's Tops Century Mark in 101-94 Win over Fairfield

Emmitsburg, Md. (Dec. 8, 2024)—Mount St. Mary's had six players score in double figures in a 101-94 shootout win over visiting Fairfield at Knott Arena on Sunday afternoon.  Jedy Cordilia led the way with 21 points as the Mountaineers improve to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Cordilia recorded a team-high 21 points for the Mount, garnering the third 20-point game in his career.  He added seven rebounds while hitting 10-of-15 from the field in the win.  Dola Adebayo chipped in 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four blocks in the win.  Javon Ervin, making his first start as a Mountaineer, finished with a season-high 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting.  Dallas Hobbs tallied 14 points and five assists with Xavier Lipscomb adding 12 points and five helpers for the Mount.  Arlandus Keyes added a season-high 11 points off the bench to round out the Mount's six double figure scorers.  Terrell Ard, Jr., just missed double figures, finishing with eight points and eight rebounds.
Fairfield's Prophet Johnson finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to pace the Stags while Braden Sparks added 16 points in the loss.

Scoring came early and often for the Mountaineers as they jumped out to a 28-13 advantage just eight minutes into the game.  A 15-to-4 allowed the Mount to take command of the game early with a 19-8 advantage.  Back-to-back buckets from Ard Jr. and Adebayo stretched the lead to 28-13 with 11:52 left in the opening half.

Fairfield (5-5, 1-1 MAAC) was able to whittle the Mount's advantage to five at 44-39, but Hobbs scored five points over the final 45 seconds to give the Mount a 49-39 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Stags remained within striking distance, trailing 66-61 with 12 minutes left in the game.  The Mount responded with a 21-to-11 spurt that was capped by back-to-back three-pointers from Keyes and Lipscomb for an 87-71 lead.  A Cordelia basket with 2:28 remaining put the Mount on top, 92-79, and from there, the Mount hit 9-of-10 at the foul line over to secure the victory.

GAME NOTES: 
  • It is the first time the Mount has scored 100 points since a 117-62 win over Washington (Md.) on Nov. 11, 2021, at Knott Arena.The last time the Mount scored 100 points or more points against an NCAA Division I opponent was a 104-84 win at Norfolk State on Jan. 3, 2014.The last time the Mountaineers scored 100 or more points at home against a Division I opponent at home was a 103-86 win over LIU on Jan. 14, 1995.
  • It is the first time the Mount has had six double figure scorers in the same game since a home win over LIU on December 23 last year.
  • Mount St. Mary's recorded 23 assists while committing just five turnovers in the game.
  • The Mount finished the game 35-of-65 (.538) from the field and 10-of-23 (.435) from three-point range.
  • The Mount's 6-3 start to the season continues the team's best start to a season since joining NCAA Division I in 1988-89.
