EMMITSBURG, Md. (December 3, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's battled #7 Maryland Tuesday evening in College Park, falling to the Terrapins 87-52.
Jo Raflo led the Mount with 10 points.
Tessa Engelman tied a career high with eight, with
Gabrielle Kennerly matching her in the points column.
Madison Ruff had the most rebounds with five. As a group, the team splashed home seven three-pointers, hitting that mark for the fourth time this season.
Strong defense helped the Mountaineers contend with the Terrapins at the start. Bench scoring from Ruff and
Rosa Revueltas Pareja forced a Maryland timeout at the 6:15 mark in a 4-4 tie. A triple by Engelman rounded out the Mount's first quarter scoring as the Terps edged ahead, 15-8, after one.
A 10-0 run to open the second period put the home team in control, and Maryland led 40-19 at the half. Engelman was the Mount's halftime leader in scoring with six points.
Kennerly found her stride in the third, allowing the Mountaineers to play level with the Terps.
Jaedyn Jamison and Raflo added triples as the floor opened. The 21 points scored in the quarter are the second most in a frame this season.
Returning home Saturday (Dec. 7), Mount St. Mary's host Loyola in a 2 p.m. bout at Knott Arena. The game marks the 45
th edition of the Catholic Clash on the women's basketball side.
