Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Mount St. Mary’s Falls at Fairfield, 76-61

EMMITSBURG, Md. (December 21, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball fell to the Fairfield Stags, 76-61, in their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) road contest this season.

Jo Raflo recorded her second career double-double, finishing with a team-high 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. The senior last picked up a double-double in her sophomore season, with a 22-point, 11-rebound effort against Niagara on January 28, 2023. Gabrielle Kennerly and Anna LeMaster earned double figures in scoring, registering 14 points each.

Fairfield was led by Kaety L'Amoreaux with 23 points and nine rebounds. The Stags sophomore notched 20 points or more against the Mount in a second consecutive game.

Mount St. Mary's shot 41.8 percent from the field, good for their fourth-best percentage this year. They were bested by Fairfield in overall percentage at 47 percent, but the Mountaineers did better from three-point distance and the foul line. Turnovers proved costly for the visitors, with 22 giveaways permitting Fairfield to take 11 more shot attempts.

Tessa Engelman gave the Mount an initial lead by scoring the first bucket of the game on a layup. Raflo and LeMaster later provided small advantages for the team in the opening quarter. Fairfield was quick to respond, as a fast break layup by Izabella Nicoletti-Leite set in motion an 11-0 run which transferred the lead to the Stags.

The margin reached double digits by the second quarter. Mount rallied from 20 down in the opening half to 14 by halftime but were only able to trim the deficit down to 11 at any point the rest of the game.

With the defeat, Mount St. Mary's falls to 2-8 (0-2 MAAC) this season.

On Monday, December 30, the Mount wraps up its non-conference schedule with a game at Morgan State in Baltimore. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. from Hill Field House.
