New York, N.Y. (December 18, 2024)—Mount St. Mary's outlasted LIU, 80-72, on Wednesday night at the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn.
Dola Adebayo led four Mountaineers in double figures with 16 points. With the victory, the Mountaineers improved to 7-4 on the season.
Freshman Abdou Khadre Kébé chipped in a career-high 12 points while
Javon Ervin added 11 and
Terrell Ard Jr. 10 in the victory. Ard Jr. stuffed the stat sheet, adding 11 rebounds, seven assists and three steals in the win. LIU's Malachi Davis led all scorers with 23 points.
Leading 34-29 at the half, LIU had a strong start to the second stanza, taking a 40-38 advantage after a Blake Lander three-pointer. The Mount's
Xavier Lipscomb countered with a three of his own to put the Mount back ahead, 42-40. After Lander tied the score at 42-42,
Javon Ervin's free throw with 16:30 left gave the Mount the lead for good.
The lead oscillated between four and eight points for most of the second half. The Mount held its largest lead, 78-68, with 2:26 on the clock.
GAME NOTES
- The Mountaineers improved to 6-3 this season in non-conference play, clinching a winning non-conference record for the first time since 2002-03.The Mount has two remaining non-conference games, at Miami and at George Mason (Dec. 28).
- Terrell Ard Jr. finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, recording his fourth career double-double.He is the first Mountaineer to finish with 10+ points, 10+ rebounds and 7+ assists in a game since Jeremy Goode posted 18 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in a win over FDU on January 27, 2007.
- Mount St. Mary's went 31-for-41 (.756) at the foul line in the victory.The 41 free throw attempts were the most in a game since going 25-for-41 against Morgan State on Nov. 25, 2018.The 31 made free throws were the most since the Mount went 31-for-40 in an NEC Quarterfinal win over St. Francis Brooklyn on March 5, 2014.
