EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 5, 2024) – For the second time this year,
Graham Dougald scored to produce a positive result for the Mountaineers' men's soccer team. But unlike his first, which mustered a draw, this one put the Mount ahead in a 2-1 victory over Manhattan Saturday in Riverdale, New York.
Dougald posted his strike in the 59
th minute, taking a cross pitch pass from
Bobby Marsteller and curling the attempt past a singular Jasper defender. The goal put the Mount back in front following a penalty scored by Manhattan's Sebastiano Musu.
Maks Czyz opened the scoring for the Mountaineers, earning his second goal in as many matches. Off a corner kick by
Luc Holden, Czyz founded on the far side of the net with open space to bury the chance past the Jaspers.
In regular play, Mount's defense stood tall against Manhattan's 17 shots.
Julian Marcos received credit for three saves.
The result makes the Mountaineers to first team to notch two victories in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), and either a tie or full possession of first place pending matches later in the day.
Next Saturday (Oct. 12), Mount St. Mary's welcomes Sacred Heart to Emmitsburg. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. in the second game of a soccer doubleheader pairing with women's soccer.
