EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 12, 2024) – Facing a 2-0 deficit, Mount St. Mary's men's soccer rallied in the second half to earn a 2-2 draw with the Sacred Heart Pioneers in a Saturday match.
By picking up a seventh point, the Mount continues to claim a share of first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The team's record now stands at 2-0-1 in the league.
Bobby Marsteller found the back of the net for the first time in 2024, and
Jack Kehoe secured the equalizer and tallied his first collegiate goal in the process.
Maks Czyz provided the assist on the Marsteller shot while
Junee Lee and
Sherwin Chen combined to assist on Kehoe's goal. Czyz is now tied with
Graham Dougald for the second-most points with five. Chen's assist marks the first points he earned in a Mount uniform.
Both goals came after the home side fell 2-0 before halftime. Sacred Heart scored less than two minutes in on a shot from Javier Lopez Cayuela. The second goal came with a handful of seconds left before the break on a goal by David Garcia Gallego.
Marsteller provided the first offensive spark in the 53
rd minute, capping off momentum seized right at the second half kickoff. Kehoe grabbed the equalizer in the 75
th minute.
The teams finished even on shot, with the Mountaineers grabbing a 6-5 edge in shots on goal.
Julian Marcos collected three saves for the afternoon.
Mount St. Mary's hits the road for their final non-conference match of the season, taking on Saint Joseph's Tuesday (Oct. 15). MAAC play resumes next Saturday (Oct. 19) as the Mount host Niagara.
