EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 4, 2024) – Hoping for a 2-0 start to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, Mount St. Mary's men's soccer hits the road to face the Manhattan Jaspers.

Luciano Schiaffini scored his first goal as a collegiate player, providing the game-winner against Merrimack in a 2-1 victory.
Maks Czyz secured the opening goal, which is the second for his Mount St. Mary's career. Head Coach
Brett Teach earned his first win leading the Mountaineers.

Defense was also instrumental in the triumph, allowing only five shots to the Merrimack Warriors. That total is the lowest by any opponent of the Mount since October 2021, when Howard when was limited to that number. Since the return of soccer to the school in 2018, the fewest attempts any team got off was Army with four shots.

Schiaffini and Czyz became the fifth and sixth Mountaineers to score, joining
Junee Lee (3),
Abou Cherif (2),
Dominik Topolsky, and
Graham Dougald.

SCOUTING THE JASPERS

Manhattan is one position ahead of the Mount in goals scored, finding the back of the net 11 times. Sebastiano Musu is the points leader at eight with three goals and a pair of assists, while Ziv Dahan matches Musu in the goal count. In terms of defense the team is tied for third with Quinnipiac for saves at 25, with Ludvig Målberg playing every minute in the net.

The Mountaineers are looking for their first win against Manhattan. The Jaspers won the inaugural contest 5-0 and the 2023 match in Emmitsburg, 2-1.
