Men’s Soccer Drops MAAC Game for First Time in 2024, Falters at Canisius

EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 26, 2024) – Conceding two second half goals, Mount St. Mary's men's soccer suffered their first loss in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play in 2024, falling 2-1 to the Canisius Golden Griffins.  
 
The Mount's record now stands at 3-8-3 with a 3-1-1 mark in the MAAC.
 
Graham Dougald scored his third goal of the season to account for the Mountaineers' tally. The junior is now tied with Junee Lee for the team lead. Dominik Topolsky and Erick Villatoro assisted on the 29th minute score.
 
Canisius rallied in the second half, equalizing the match with a goal from Josh Miller. With 20 minutes left on the clock, Mason Petrucci secured the game winner. Both Golden Griffins found the back of the net for the second time this year.
 
Mount St. Mary's ended up getting more shots off than Canisius, totaling 20 for the contest. Jack Petrie edged Mount's Julian Marcos in saves, three to two.
 
The Mountaineers finish their home regular season schedule with a midweek match against Saint Peter's. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 30) from Waldron Family Stadium.
