EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 25, 2024) – Looking to secure a further grip on their place at the top of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) standings, Mount St. Mary's men's soccer heads to Buffalo for a match with Canisius.

MOUNT UPDATE

Battling Niagara last Saturday, the Mountaineers got a penalty kick from Dominik Topolsky and a clean sheet from Julian Marcos and the defense to earn a 1-0 win. The triumph kept the Mount undefeated in MAAC play.

Marcos won Defensive Player of the Week for the MAAC after his effort against the Purple Eagles. He made four saves in the contest, including a pair of extraordinary lunging stops to maintain the shutout. The weekly honor is the first for the men's soccer team this year.

In the conference standings, Mount St. Mary's stands in second place behind Siena. The Saints are one point ahead thanks to an extra game where they earned a draw.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIFFINS

Canisius was on the other end of that Siena draw, earning a 1-1 score against the Saints in Loudonville. The Golden Griffins also have a tie with Saint Peter's on October 5. Of their 18 goals scored, Michael Switala is the team leader with four. Of the three goalkeepers who have recorded time with the Griffs, Jack Petrie has earned the most minutes along with 37 saves.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES

Playing exclusively in MAAC competition, Mount has won both games over Canisius. Each contest has been a 2-1 final, including last season with goals from Kris Kolar Leban and Maks Czyz.

LOOKING AHEAD

Mount St. Mary's closes out the home regular season slate with a match against Saint Peter's Wednesday (Oct. 30) at 4 p.m.
