EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 23, 2024) – In the span of two minutes and 42 seconds, Mount St. Mary's women's soccer went from holding a 1-0 lead to shouldering a 2-1 defeat to the Iona Gaels Wednesday.
Iona received a final corner attempt with 20 seconds left on the clock. The Gaels' Kate McNally put the ball into the box, where it was knocked around before landing onto the head of Payton Foster. With Mount goalkeeper

th minute strike gave the visiting side their 1-0 lead. With the defense entrenched and only a few minutes to spare, a penalty was reciprocated to Iona after a handball was declared in the Gaels' box. Marissa Graziano converted the attempt to equalize the match.
With the result, Mount St. Mary's falls to 6-8-2 and 3-5-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) standings.
One last home match remains on the schedule, with the Mount hosting Merrimack Saturday (Oct. 26). Kickoff is at 1 p.m. from Waldron Family Stadium.
