LAS VEGAS, Nev. (January 8, 2024) – Stepping up to the mark at many turns, Mount St. Mary's bowling went 4-1 on the opening day of the 2024 Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic. Among the victories were triumphs over #2 Vanderbilt and #4 Louisiana Tech.
Across the day, the Mount earned an average of 192.5 for a total pinfall of 4,812. They stand fifth after the first day, behind #1 Jacksonville State, #7 Nebraska, #8 Duquesne, and #9 Stephen F. Austin. 185 pins separate the Mount from the leading Gamecocks.
Following a strong performance at the Team USA Trials, freshman
Piper Chalmers led the way for the Mount in Baker averages, posting a 21.86. Sophomore
Trishelle Leal Uribe added a 21.33 effort, with senior
Alyssa Alexander delivering a 20.48 average.
The Mountaineers began the day with a 3-0 outburst, etching out wins by a combined 91 pins. They defeated Louisiana Tech by 24, Prairie View A&M by 11, and Vanderbilt by 56. Even the lone loss to #14 Maryland Eastern Shore came with a positive caveat of a 1,014 series to help in the standings. The final game was another close victory, this time by 21 pins over Texas Southern.
