NEW CASTLE, Del. (January 21, 2024) – Picking up three victories over top 20 teams, Mount St. Mary's bowling moved up from 14
th to 11
th place in the tough and extensive field at the Northeast Classic. The trio of 4-1 wins in bracket play put them in the top third of the standings with 19 of the top 25 members in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll participating.
Four bowlers achieved Baker frame averages over 21, with
Alyssa Alexander (23.90) and
Trishelle Leal Uribe (23.62) leading the pack with impressive marks.
Leah Varela added a 22.68 and
Alyssa Balest earned a 21.56 average.
Nine of the 15 games bowled by the Mountaineers crossed the 200 line, including every game in the win over #14 UMES. The Mount went up 3-0 on both the Hawks and #20 Oklahoma Christian Eagles and took the first two against the #11 Sam Houston Bearkats. In the clinching game, the team averaged an impressive 239.67 to finish off each challenger.
Along with the 11
th place finish, the team finished with an 8-5 record for the weekend. Seven of the wins came against NTCA Top 25 squads, including #2 Vanderbilt and #3 Youngstown State.
