Manhattan (2-4-2, 2-0-0 MAAC) struck first with a goal in the 21st minute. Manhattan's Tony Yeboah was fouled in the penalty box resulting in a penalty kick for the Jaspers. Henry Hamilton was able to covert the kick to put Manhatan ahead, 1-0. Russell came up with a terrific save in a one-on-one situation with Manhattan's Gunnar Studenhofft to keep it a one-goal game. The Jaspers made it 2-0 with a pretty goal in the 31snd minute when Sebastiano Musu curled in a shot to beat Russell.
Russell had another stop on a Studenhofft breakaway with 13:23 remaining, and the Mountaineers pulled within a goal just over a minute later.
Ethan Glaser made a run toward the goal and was fouled in the box, setting up a penalty kick for the Mountaineers. Nilsen stepped up to take the kick and converted with a shot to the upper left portion of the goal. Manhattan, however, was able to keep the Mount at bay the remainder of the game for the one-goal victory.
Manhattan held a narrow 9-to-8 edge in shots, including a 6-to-5 margin in shots on goal. Russell made four saves for the Mount while Danny DiMarco had four for Manhattan in the game. Manhattan held a 6-to-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action next Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. game at Saint Peter's.
