MOUNT UPDATE
Â
Coach Cunningham and his crew lost a close match in their home opener against Bucknell last Thursday, 2-1, in a game delayed both by lightning and then a snake on the field. Trailing 2-0, the Mount's
Dominik Topolsky was able to cut the deficit in half the 65
th minute after burying a free kick from 25 yards out. The Mount, however, was unable to find the equalizer over the final 25 minutes.
Â
The Mount did have some chances over the final 25 minutes with Topolsky getting a shot off in the 75
th minute that went just wide of the goal. With 3:38 left in regulation, a lightning bolt forced a 30-minute delay. After the teams came back on the field, play was halted 10 more minutes when a snake found its way onto the pitch. Out of the delays, Bucknell started with heavier defensive pressure as they could see the lead possibly slipping away. In the final seconds, the Mount was able to get down the field and set themselves up for what looked to be a great opportunity for a goal, but just as
Luc Holden followed through on the shot, a Bucknell defender was able to step in front, securing a win for the Bison.
Â
The Mount edged the Bison 9-8 in shots and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks, while goalie
Ethan Russell snagged a pair of saves.
Â
SCOUTING RADFORD
Â
Radford is 0-1 on the season after falling in the season opener at NC State in a 3-1 road loss. The Highlanders took two shots in the game, one in the first half and one in the second. Their first goal came in the 61
st minute by Alex Kryazhev. Bryceland Peacock recorded two saves as the Highlanders were outshot by a margin 19-2. However, Radford held NC State to just five shots on goal in the contest.
