EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 23, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's men's soccer kicks off their 2023 season with the home opener against Bucknell on Thursday night.
ABOUT THE MOUNT
A new look Mount St. Mary's team debuts against Bucknell on Thursday night at Waldron Family Stadium. With 13 newcomers, the Mountaineers roster features plenty of new faces. However, there is plenty returning for head coach Bryant Cunningham as well. Top returners from last season include goalkeeper Ethan Russell, who played 1,530 minutes over 17 starts protecting the goal. Sophomore Ethan Glaser, the Mount's third top goal-scorer while only starting six games last season, is projected to be a factor in the lineup, as are midfielders Dominik Topolsky and Ondrej Soukup.
Thursday's match with the Bison launches the Mount's 15-game schedule. Conference play begins September 16th with a home game versus the Fairfield Stags.
SCOUTING BUCKNELL
The Bison are coming off a tough season last year, finishing 2022 with a 3-12-2 overall record and a 2-5-2 mark in the Patriot League. Top goal and point scorer Zane Domsohn returns for his sophomore campaign alongside top minute receivers Matthew Owusu and Waldemar Kattrup. The Bison added nine newcomers and a new assistant coach in Jeremy Payne.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Thursday marks the 14th showdown between the Mountaineers and the Bison with Mount capturing a 3-1 road victory last year on September 9th, 2022. After playing to a 1-1 standstill, the Mount grabbed the win with a pair of late goals from Jesus Salazar and Ondrej Soukup scoring in the 87th and 89th minutes, respectively. The Mount holds an 8-5-0 advantage in the all-time series with the Bison, including a 4-2-0 mark at home.

The Mount takes a break over the weekend and returns to play at Radford on Tuesday, August 29.
