Pomona, N.Y. (May 7th, 2023) – The Mountaineers produced 15 runs on 14 hits en route to today's win over Manhattan 15-10.
Luke Pryor secured his second win of the season and a very important conference win for his team. Pryor pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowed two runs on two hits, and sent two batters dragging their bats back to the dugout.
Tristan McAlister went 3-4 at the plate today with three RBIs, starting his big day in the first inning after placing a sacrifice bunt to the mound allowing
Tyler Long to score the first run of the game.
Jayson Kramer was also very active after producing a 4-6 day in the box, including earning the second RBI of the game with a double down the right field line which allowed
Shane Wockley to score.
Scott Seeker added the Mount's third run in the first after striping a double to center field scoring Kramer, 3-0.
A busy first inning by both teams set the precedent for how today's game was going to be played as Manhattan led through one, 5-3. A run scored in the third inning via an
Aiden Tierney double scored Kramer to bring the game within one.
A scoreless fourth inning brought us to the fifth down one run, 5-4.
Shane Wockley changed that quickly after hitting a two-run bomb to right field which scored Long.
Brady Drawbaugh followed with a triple to the gap in left-center scoring Seeker and brought
David Stirpe to the plate. Stirpe added to the momentum with a base knock to right field which allowed Drawbaugh to walk across the plate, 9-5.
Back-to-back homers in the sixth inning gave the Jaspers what they needed to keep the game within reach. A
Josh Braxton score on a wild pitch in the seventh and a homer from the Jaspers in the eighth brought the Mountaineers to the top of the ninth with only a one run lead.
McAlister ended his day the same way he started it and that was by adding runs to the board. The senior singled down the right field line to score Long and Stirpe and advanced Wockley to third. Kramer followed with a single to right which allowed Wockley to score. To end the scoring for the Mount was a quirky play that worked in the team's favor after McAlister successfully stole third base and advanced home on a bad throw by the catcher, 15-10.
Jake Andrews closed the game for the Mount, the sophomore allowed no runs on only one hit to give the Mountaineers a clutch conference win.
