Mount St. Mary’s Falls in Series Opener to Siena

Emmitsburg, Md. (May 11th, 2023) – The Mountaineers went down early and were unable to bring themselves back into this one as the final came to be a 9-4 Siena win. Mount St. Mary's draws an 8-11 MAAC conference record heading into tomorrow.

The Mountaineers fell early in this game 6-2. Consecutive three run innings for the Saints put them ahead 6-0 going into the bottom of the fourth. Shane Wockley started the Mount off in bottom of fourth with a solo bomb to right field to put his team on the board. Scoring continued in the inning through a booted ball by the first basemen which allowed Tristan McAlister to score, 6-2.

Two scoreless innings thanks in large part to JB Manarchuck, brought us to the top of the seventh. Siena rattled the scoreboard with two runs to increase their lead 8-2. The Mountaineers responded with two of their own in the bottom of the frame. Aiden Tierney started things off with a single through the left side. Scott Seeker followed with a single and advanced to second on an unsuccessful attempt at a throw-out on Tierney to third. With runners in scoring position, Brady Drawbaugh hit a base knock to the gap in center field allowing Seeker and Tierney to safely cross the plate, 8-4. The inning subsided and brought the Mount within four runs going into to eighth inning.

A scoreless final two innings for the Mountaineers gave the Saints what they needed to take this game away, 9-4.

Game two will begin tomorrow at E.T. Straw Family Stadium in Emmitsburg, Md. at 1 p.m.
