Emmitsburg, Md. (May 12th, 2023) – Great bats, good defense, and solid pitching from the Mountaineers solidified a win today 8-7 over Siena.
Cooper Adams pitched seven innings, tallied seven strikeouts, with only two runs given up.
Three scoreless innings is the way today's game started, thanks in large part to
Cooper Adams strong arm on the mound.
Jayson Kramer opened things up in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run bomb to right field, scoring
Shane Wockley and
Tristan McAlister. Not only scoring the first run, McAlister went to work at the plate today posting a perfect 4-4 line.
Siena gained two runs back on the Mount through the fifth and sixth innings from a perfectly placed bunt in the fifth and a solo shot to right center in the sixth.
Scott Seeker responded in the bottom of the sixth with a stripe to left center, notching himself a double while scoring Kramer and
Tyler Long. Scoring continued in the bottom of the frame via a
Brady Drawbaugh single that broke through the left side allowing Seeker and
Aiden Tierney to cross the plate, 7-2.
David Stirpe ended the Mount's scoring in the seventh inning with a deep solo homer over the center field fence.
Jake Andrews came in to finish things off in the eighth and ninth innings, allowing one run on two hits and tallying a strikeout. The game came down to the final pitch on a 3-2 count as Andrews threw a breaking ball which broke to the outside corner of the plate that was just enough to make Donovan Montgomery bite, as he strung a high fly to Tierney in right field which sealed today's game.
Game three, the rubber match, is scheduled to played tomorrow at 3 p.m. at E.T. Straw Family Stadium in Emmitsburg, Md.
