EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 8, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse held a 7-4 lead at halftime, but surrendered a second half comeback to the Canisius Golden Griffins, resulting in an 11-10 defeat.
Erin Anderson and
Julianna Sanchez recorded hat tricks on the day, with Anderson serving as the points leader with five.
Madison Harmening also tabulated a multi-goal performance. Sanchez retained her position on draw controls, winning nine of the team's 15.
On defense,
Madison Bradley recorded nine saves and five ground balls.
Margaret Lonergan and
Abigail Zeigenfuse each ended the day with a pair of caused turnovers.
Two Sanchez scores, plus goals by Anderson and Harmening, built a 4-0 lead for the Mount after the first quarter. Canisius found the scoreboard in the second quarter and outpaced the Mountaineers by a goal to pull within three at the break.
After Sanchez tallied her hat trick to build a 10-5 advantage for the visitors, Canisius locked in on defense, disallowing any more opportunities for the Mount to score. The Golden Griffins posted four goals to make it 10-9 after three, and Riley Davis' fourth quarter score knotted the match. Skylar McArthur fired home the game winner with 20 seconds left.
The Mount hosts Fairfield Wednesday (Apr. 12) at noon.
