EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 12, 2023) – Upset hopes from Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse in their game against the first place Fairfield Stags fell short in a 16-8 defeat Wednesday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.
For the second straight game,
Erin Anderson was the Mount's leader in points, scoring three goals with an assist.
Julianna Sanchez was also a multi-goal scorer.
Margaret Lonergan finished the contest tallying four ground balls and four caused turnovers, and
Abigail Zeigenfuse added six more ground balls.
Fairfield received a big day from Amanda Kozak, registering five goals. Kozak was one of eight Stags who posted a goal. Casey Collins got the win with 10 saves.
Mount drops to 3-11 (2-4 MAAC) this year, while Fairfield hit double figures for wins at 10-3 (5-0 MAAC).
A 5-0 run to open the game by the Stags sealed a wire-to-wire win by the visitors. The closest the Mount got was the second quarter, when
Madison Harmening put away a pass from
Dani Donoghue to bring the score to 7-5 Fairfield. The Stags cemented the contest after that, scoring the next eight goals before the Mountaineers could answer.
Taking to the road, Mount St. Mary's faces Marist Saturday (Apr. 15) in Poughkeepsie.
