Women’s Lacrosse Picks Up Critical Road Victory

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 15, 2023) – Cracking the code on offense, Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse got some spectacular individual efforts in a well-rounded team performance, defeating the Marist Red Foxes 20-7 in Poughkeepsie, New York.

The team remains in the thick of the hunt for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament, standing at 3-4 in league play (4-11 overall).

Julianna Sanchez had a career day with seven goals, her highest number as a collegiate player. Erin Anderson contributed seven points, earning three goals and four assists. Abby Osmeyer found the back of the net five times, and Dani Donoghue added four more. Freshman Kelly Bragg registered her first career goal in the contest.

On defense, Madison Bradley tallied 10 saves in goal and added three ground balls. Possessions were key as the Mount won 19 draw controls, led by Molly Molchanoff with four.

The Mountaineers seized control of the contest in the first quarter and wrapped it up by halftime. Osmeyer broke a 2-2 tie with a goal at the 7:26 mark of the opening frame, sparking a 3-0 run. Leading 5-3 after the first, the Mount went 7-0 in the second period. Donoghue began the scoring to extend the game to 6-3, and the remaining six goals came in a pair of waves. The fast and furious outbursts ignited a lopsided 12-3 advantage at the break.

Not done yet, the visitors punctuated their victory with a six spot in the third. Osmeyer had three of the goals with Sanchez adding two. Up 18-5 entering the fourth quarter, the team coasted to the victory with another pair of scores for good measure.

The 2023 regular season finale takes place next Saturday (Apr. 22) with the team hosting Quinnipiac.
