Mount Clutches Rubber Match in Runaway Win at Marist

Poughkeepsie, New York (April 8, 2023) – A team effort bought Mount St. Mary's a conference win today, 16-7. The Mountaineers totaled 20 hits and 16 runs with a monster rally in the sixth inning to extend their lead which gave them enough to secure the win.
 
The game begun with a Marist lead after scoring two in the bottom of the first. The Mount were quick to respond with four runs, thanks in large part to a Scott Seeker three-run bomb which allowed Gavin Lacoe and Tristan McAlister to score.
 
The Mount went into the third ahead 4-2. Brady Drawbaugh started things off with a single up the middle, putting himself on base for a Shane Wockley two-run home run shot, repeating yesterday's outing.
 
The pressure began to mount for the Red Fox which helped them turn on their offense in the fourth. Dylan Hoy started things off for Marist after scoring on a wild pitch. Brian Hart Followed on a next batter sacrifice fly to take two back on the Mount. However, a valiant effort stipend by a sound pitching staff today by the Mountaineers.
 
A huge sixth inning for Mount St. Mary's called game after scoring five runs. JT Landwehr started the scoring off with an RBI double, batting in Lacoe and McAlister. A few batters later Shane Wockley stepped to the plate with two outs and bases loaded and cranked a base clearing double to right field, allowing Drawbaugh, Jayson Kramer, and Landwehr to cross the plate, 11-5.
 
Solid pitching for the Mountaineers sent them into the eighth inning with a steep lead that they weren't finished adding to. Tristan McAlister recorded his first RBIs of the day, also going 4-5 at the plate, after finding a gap on the left side allowing David Stirpe and Wockley to score, 14-6.
 
The Mountaineers put two more runs on the board before everything was said and done via a Wockley base clearing two RBI single, allowing Kramer and Landwehr to cross the plate, 16-7.
 
Jake Andrews recorded his second win of the season which puts him at 2-0 after pitching 1.0 inning, allowing one hit, and sitting two batters down. Shane Wockley went 4-5 at the plate while recording seven RBIs and scoring twice.

Mount St. Mary's will play the Virginia Cavaliers on Wednesday, April 12th in a midweek matchup at 6 p.m.
