Poughkeepsie, New York (April 6, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's lost a close one today 8-7. The Mountaineers rallied in the ninth after scoring three runs yet were too late to the punch.
The Mount went down 2-0 in the first via an RBI double by Brian Hart and an RBi single by Bayram Hot.
Jayson Kramer started things off the Mountaineers after knocking a solo shot in the top of the third. Kramer assisted on the Mount's second run in the fourth as well after hitting an RBI single, allowing
JT Landwehr to score, 3-2.
An eventful third, fourth, and fifth innings for both teams as they were both able to score a run in each of their frames. The sixth and seventh were quiet for the Mount which is when Marist took the wheel.
The Red Fox scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh started by a double RBI by Niko Amory who striped a base clearing double. The bases were full later in the inning and Marist was able to score one more off a base advancing hit by pitch, the inning ended with a Marist lead, 8-3.
Landwehr stepped to the plate in the top of the eighth, with momentum on his side as he went 4-5 at the plate today and hit his first homer of the season. A solid bottom of the eighth for the Mount's defense sent them into the ninth down four runs.
The rally started with a balk of all things as
Tristan McAlister was able to score and
David Stirpe able to advance to third. Landwehr stepped back in the box and singled to right field, batting Stirpe in, 8-6. Landwehr then scored on a wild pitch,
Josh Braxton moved to second, and
Tyler Long moved to third. The Red Fox were able to escape the inning and secure the first win of the series.
