EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 5, 2023) – Another productive fourth quarter benefited Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse Wednesday, defeating the Iona Gaels by a 15-9 final. The team pulls even in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) standings at 2-2 for the year, and bump up to 3-9 overall.
 
Dani Donoghue set the tone for the Mountaineers, matching a season high with six goals. 
Hailey Chester and 
Abby Osmeyer registered multiple goals on the day as well. 
Erin Anderson, 
Julianna Sanchez and 
Mackenzi Furlong supplied two assists each.
 
Sanchez also provided a huge helping hand for draw controls. The Mount won 19 of 28 chances, with the graduate student securing 12, her best number since joining the team. 
Madison Harmening added her name to the draw control sheet three times.
 
On defense, 
Margaret Lonergan caused a career-high six turnovers, part of 13 for the team on the day. 
Madison Bradley ended the game with six saves.
 
For Iona, Emily Stewart had a trick and Alexa Maggiacomo put in two assists. The Gaels drop to 7-5 (1-3 MAAC) on the year.
 
The game ended up as a comeback victory, as Iona got the initial upper hand. Goals by Micaela Fitzpatrick and Kira Varada put the visitors up 2-0. 
Logan Cook responded with a score, but two more by the Gaels gave them a 4-1 advantage. Mount closed the frame with a Chester goal, and started the second on a goal by 
Molly Molchanoff. Down 5-3, Donoghue began her torrent pace with a pair to finish out the first half, tying the game 5-5 at the break.
 
39 seconds into the third quarter, Donoghue secured the hat trick and gave the Mount its first lead. After the Gaels scored to tie, 
Anna Salerno scored to put the home side back up. The game would ping pong between a 1-2 goal lead until the 11-minute mark of the fourth quarter. That's when Donoghue scored numbers five and six for the 11-8 edge. From then on, it was all Mountaineers, completing the contest with a 6-1 run. Osmeyer's pair, a Sanchez goal, and a final Furlong finish sealed it.
 
The Mountaineers take on Canisius (Apr. 8) at 11 a.m. in Buffalo.
