EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 25, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's University awarded seven student-athletes as winners of the 2022-23 Kolon and Sheridan Awards, recognized at the Blue & White Sports Banquet on April 24
th. Recipients of the Kolon Award are
Kalli Bell,
Todd Charles, and
Brady Drawbaugh. For the Sheridan Award, honorees were
Cooper Adams,
Margaret Lonergan,
Steven Schmitt, and
Abigail Zeigenfuse.
The Kolon Award, which is voted on by the Mount athletic department, goes to the student-athlete, who, through hard work and determination, has earned the respect and admiration of his or her fellow athletes and coaches, and who, through inspirational effort, has displayed the determination exemplified by the late Jack Kolon.
The Sheridan Award, also voted on by the Mount athletic department, is for the college student-athlete, who, through athletic and academic achievement, has exemplified the spirit and dedication demanded by intercollegiate athletics, and who, through such activity, has fostered the ideals of Monsignor John L. Sheridan and Mount St. Mary's University.

Adams and Drawbaugh are both members of the Mountaineer baseball team. Leading the pitching staff, Adams boasts a 7-1 mark with a 3.84 ERA in his second season in Emmitsburg, fanning 57 batters along the way. Drawbaugh is a four-year player who has a collegiate .260 average, bumped up to .280 with nine home runs this season. Together with their teammates, the duo helped pilot the Mount to a 20-18 record and a 6-6 mark through the opening two-thirds of 2023.
Bell has been a force at midfield for the women's soccer program over four seasons at the Mount. Over 57 games, almost all starts, the Sparrows Point alumnus has posted 30 points for the team, separated by 16 points and seven goals. Last fall, she led in points with nine, scoring twice and assisting five times, guiding the team to three victories and seven draws.
Charles is a dominant sprinter on the Mountaineers' track & field team. This past season, he broke the school's indoor record for the 60 meter dash as well as the outdoor record in the 100 meters. He served as a beacon in the postseason, finishing second at the IC4A/ECAC Championships with a 6.81 second time, hundredths off the 6.76 record broken at Bucknell. Charles already holds the 200 meter indoor record, crossing that threshold last year.
Lonergan and Zeigenfuse were key members of two conference championship lacrosse teams, both competing as four-year players. Lonergan has appeared in 56 games, averaging more than one caused turnover per contest with 68, along with 69 ground balls. Zeigenfuse has 59 games and 54 starts logged for the team, tallying 143 draw controls, 95 ground balls, 53 caused turnovers and 11 points – five goals and six assists. Both players have won numerous all-conference award recognitions.
Schmitt competes as a long stick midfielder on the men's lacrosse team and plays a major role in the team's performance. This season, the Cambridge, N.Y. native leads in ground balls with 91, is second for the season and now third all-time in caused turnovers at a respective 25 and 60, and a registerer of 12 points – eight goals and four assists.
The Kolon and Sheridan award completed the Blue & White Sports Banquet Monday, honoring all seniors from the Mount's 24 varsity teams.
