EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 8, 2023) – Despite a hot early start, Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse conceded the high ground to Navy, who took a 16-8 victory Wednesday evening.

Julianna Sanchez recorded a hat trick during the game, her first as a Mountaineer.
Dani Donoghue and
Erin Anderson added multi-goal efforts. Goalkeeper
Madison Bradley enjoyed a strong start of eight saves in the first quarter, finishing with 14.

Navy received eight goals from freshman Ava Yovino, who also earned five draw controls.

Sanchez set the tone for the first period with a goal 45 seconds in. While Bradley served as a wall in front of the net, Anderson took advantage even while being woman down to put the Mount up 2-0. Donoghue added her name to the goal list a couple minutes later. Bradley remained a presence in goal with four saves over the final two minutes.

The Mids were able to find the back of the net with 12:16 left in the second quarter. It proved to be the momentum break the home side needed as it kicked off a 6-0 run. Sanchez's second right before halftime made it 6-4 Navy at the break.

Navy effectively sealed the match in the third quarter, limiting the Mountaineers to a single goal by
Abby Osmeyer. Defense for the Mids held firm until the Mount found three goals across the final four minutes.

The Mountaineers host Bucknell Saturday (Mar. 11) at 3 p.m. from Waldron Family Stadium.
