Emmitsburg, Md. (March 29, 2023) – Magic in Emmitsburg as
Brady Drawbaugh sends the Mountaineer family home with nothing but smiles after his walk-off grand slam. The Mountaineers sweated this one out and were able to come out of the smoke with a 9-7 win.
The game started with a tone setting three-run homerun by
Efrain Correa, Jr. who had an incredible 3-4 day at the plate. Starting pitcher
Danny Salisbury pitched well in that he didn't allow a run until the fourth. Georgetown's Jake Hyde hit a solo shot in the fourth to cut the deficit, 3-1.
Tristan McAlister used his base-running IQ to get himself in a pickle as
Tyler Long was battling a full count, which allowed
JT Landwehr to score, 4-1. The Hoyas responded in the fifth inning with a two-run shot over right field, 4-3. The Hoyas stayed true defensively, allowing no runs over the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.
The Georgetown dugout erupted with excitement in the top of the seventh after Ubaldo Lopez knocked a three-run homerun over left center and taking their first lead of the game, 7-4. The Mountaineers weren't struggling to get hits, simply struggling turning them into runs. This was until the bottom of the eighth when
JT Landwehr striped a single to left field which allowed
Josh Braxton to score from second to end the Mount's scoring drought, 7-5.
The Mountaineers were on their heels in the top of the ninth down two runs. Sophomore
Jake Andrews didn't let the pressure get to him as he pitched a three-up, three-down inning to send the team to the dugout with some momentum.
Tyler Long was leaving pitchers worn out the way he was working each at bat. The Junior led off the bottom of the ninth with a base hit to center field.
Scott Seeker, a player with a hot hand today, singled to left field which advanced Long into scoring position. Correa, Jr. stepped to the plate and worked the count beautifully, taking a page out of Long's book, to send himself to first on a base on balls. In stepped
Brady Drawbaugh, who on the first pitch sent a goner over the left-center fence to end the game and notch a win for his team.
Mount St. Mary's was batting today, tallying 16 total hits. Long went 3-5, Seeker went 3-5, Correa, Jr. went 3-4, and Landwehr went 3-4. Sophomore Andrews earns his first win of the season after closing two innings with no hits or runs and tallying three strikeouts.
