Cooper Adams Contained Fairfield En Route to First MAAC Win

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 31, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's pitching was phenomenal today, winning the game 6-2. The Mountaineers were in command all game thanks in large part to Cooper Adams' consistency on the mound. The fifth year finished eight innings, allowed two runs on seven hits while striking six batters out. Luke Pryor stepped in to finish the game for Adams and struck out the side in order.

The win draws Mount St. Mary's to 12-12 on the season and marks their first win in the Metro Athletic Atlantic Conference.

The game started with a quirky play, as Aiden Tierney singles on a bunt. The ball was thrown over the first baseman's head which allowed Tyler Long to score. Scott Seeker was rounding third as the right fielder mishandles the ball, allowing Seeker to score and Tierney to advance to third on a double error. Shane Wockley singled to right field which batted Tierney in, putting the Mount ahead 3-0 through one.

A few scoreless innings by both teams kept the game in check. This was until the sixth inning when Matt Bergevin put his team on the board with a solo shot to left field, 3-1. In the bottom of the sixth, Wockley responded with a homer of his own to left field. The next batter, JT Landwehr singled to left field bringing David Stirpe to the plate. On an 0-2 count, Stirpe knocked a two-run shot to left-center, batting in JT Landwehr, 5-1.

The Mountaineers let up one more run in the bottom of the eighth through a Charlie Pagliarini solo homer yet were able to close out and win the game 6-2.
