EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 26, 2023) – With victories over St. Francis Brooklyn and Siena Sunday, the Mount St. Mary's women's water polo team improved to 11-7 (3-3 MAAC) on the season. The Mountaineers defeated the Terriers, 16-14, and the Saints, 16-9.
 
Ana Luisa Cotta crossed the 100-goal mark for her Mount career during the Brooklyn game, scoring eight goals total across the day. Annefleur ten Bloemendal added six against Siena for a tally of nine. Heather Lock added hat tricks in each contest. ten Bloemendal supplied five assists in the opener, with Robyn Currie feeding four more in the afternoon game.
 
In goal, Pip Piper and Samantha Bright split duties, with Piper recording 12 saves and Bright 11. On defense there were 17 steals in the game with the Terriers and six field blocks against the Saints. Currie, Cotta and ten Bloemendal finished with four swipes each in the first game, with Currie handing four of the six field blocks in the second game.
 
Cotta had a personal 3-0 run against St. Francis Brooklyn between the first and second quarters, helping turn the tide from a 4-4 tie to a 7-4 lead which the team would not transfer back. The Terriers rallied to pull within one after three, 12-11, and tie the game with 5:17 left. Goals by ten Bloemendal, Anna Kegel and Rebecca Valentine put the contest on ice.
 
A strong performance at the conclusion of the first half and the beginning of the second half sealed the game versus Siena. Following a Saints rally to knot proceedings at 3-3, a Kegel score kicked off a 5-0 run. Two goals were contributed by ten Bloemendal with Beatrice Vieira and Mara Davis adding their names to the scoresheet. Outscoring the host team 10-6 in the second half, the Mountaineers did not offer the Saints many chances to come back.
 
The third weekend in MAAC play takes place at VMI, with games occurring April 1^st and 2^nd.
