Emmitsburg, Md. (March 26, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's lost game one and two of today's double-header to fall to 10-12 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.
GAME ONE:
Leadoff batter Dylan Vincent hit a solo homerun on the very first pitch of the game that turned out to be a tone-setting shot from Canisius. The Mount fell behind early, 5-0.
Tristan McAlister decided enough was enough after knocking a solo shot over the left field fence to dampen the lead held by Canisius, 5-1. After that solo shot, scoring became second nature to Canisius, not missing a beat and scoring every inning of the game.
Ty Stecko,
Aiden Tierney, and
Scott Seeker notched RBIs with doubles and singles in the top of the fifth, pursuing a rally that wasn't there. Seeker able to increase his homerun total to six in the top of the seventh after knocking a ball over the center field fence.
Scoring became difficult after that, as the Mountaineers lost game one 23-6.
GAME TWO:
The second game started much like the first after Mike Destefano hit a two-run homerun in the top of the first to give the Griffins the first runs of the game. Canisius led 3-0 before the Mount got on the board.
In the bottom of the third,
Tyler Long was able to get into scoring position after recording a hustle double via a short hit to the right field side.
Tristan McAlister stepped to the plate and hit it toward a similar area of the field, allowing Long to score on an RBI single.
Canisius responded with Vincent's second solo shot of the day, making the score 4-1. The Mountaineers produced consecutive one-run innings in the fourth and fifth, while producing a two-run inning in the seventh to tie the score, 5-5. In that sequence of scoring.
David Stirpe and Seeker gained RBIs while
Brady Drawbaugh sent a ball to the moon on a three-run homer over left center.
Canisius closed out strong atop the hill, leaving the Mountaineers scoreless the rest of the way, losing the second game of the day by a closer than it seems, 9-5.
